Beach Lupine plants are rampant. You can literally hear the pods launch out their seeds onto sandy dunes. This is the perfect time to see their brilliant purple flowers.

Bring binoculars, some birds worth seeing: Red-Tailed Hawk, the Great Blue Heron and the White Egret. There are 215 species of birds living at this ecological reserve. There are many owls living there as evidenced by the mouse bones scattered under trees. But the likelihood of actually seeing the wide-eyed nocturnal creature is slim. The wetlands used to cover over 2,000 acres but have now been reduced to 190 acres sandwiched in between Marina del Rey and the Westchester Bluffs.
